Togiak Strategy

TOGIAK STRATEGY

The village of Togiak is in southwest Alaska, along the coastline, and the northernmost portion of Bristol Bay. When you look at an Alaska map to locate Togiak, you'll notice there's an island named Hagameister just outside the bay. Of the five islands just outside Togiak: Summit Island, Round Island, High Island, and Crooked Island, Hagameister Island is the largest. We used to have a herd of around 500 reindeer on the big island that helped to supplement the villages need for food during the winter months, until the U.S. Fish and Wildlife and the Alaska Department of Fish and Game unilaterally decided to kill them off a number of years ago.

Round Island hosts hundreds if not into the thousands, of walrus, during the summer months. Tourists enjoy going for a boat ride out to the island to take in all the noises, smells and pictures.

All of the islands have small game on them such as fox, a variety of bird life and sometimes bears like to take a swim out to the islands. During spring, killer whales like to jump around, along with seal lions, and various types of seals. Spring also brings herring, king salmon, swans, cranes, ducks, geese, puffins and other birds. As you can see, the Lord has blessed Togiak, in Bristol Bay, with the largest wild / world class salmon fishery in the world, all headed up the river to the lower and upper lakes. It is in His paradise, that God has given me a vision and a strategy in fulfilling the command to go forth...

Our Purpose Statement:

With our focus on the youth, to bring all people to Jesus, involving them in the church family, to enable them to develop a Christ honoring lifestyle and equip them to serve others - all to bring glory and honor to God.

Our Vision Statement:

To develop a safe environment that inspires hope for all peoples, where they learn to honor God with their lifestyle, so that genuine love of and for Christ will positively influence Togiak, other villages in the Bristol Bay area and wherever they go, to be a witness for Him.

Our Mission Statement:

To be a place of hope by reaching out to all peoples, to meet physical, emotional and spiritual needs in the community by involving them in Church Services, Children's Church, Vacation Bible School, Prayer, Bible Studies, Clothing & Food Pantry / Camp Programs, and mission trips that will allow the Word and Work of God to transform their lives by training them and sending them wherever God leads.

We're praying God will send self-supporting Mission Service Core, Nehemiah Project, Seminary trained or Mission focused - Holy Spirit filled Church members to sign up for short term mission trips (six months to two years) to come and serve in the Eskimo village of Togiak. The cross-cultural training relationships will serve to evangelize, energize and equip our Native Youth to be used of God as mission minded leaders in our community, the outlying villages all over our State, Russia and other countries and on Indian Reservations and other churches in the lower 48. Will you pray with us that God will begin in Togiak, to raise up lay pastors and bible study leaders? Are there any in your church that God is calling to come to Togiak, Alaska?
